Day 1 - SCA Green Coffee Foundation is a 1 day course that offers an in-depth program for coffee industry professionals to develop their knowledge and skills with green coffee. Learn about topics such as coffee processing, harvesting techniques, coffee origins, and quality control. Benefit from practical skills development and professional mentoring that will help you on your journey.
Learn the key concepts surrounding green coffee: Production, process, classification, transportation, storage, arrival at destination. Learn how climate change is affecting coffee production.
Venture into the world of specialty coffees starting with one of the most important aspects, the raw material: the green coffee bean.
Day 2 - CQI Intro to Post-Harvest Processing is a 5-hour online or in person non-certification class geared toward coffee professionals or aficionados who want to better understand the basic processing methods. The class covers a brief history of coffee processing, coffee harvesting methods, pre-cleaning measures and the standard post-harvest processing methods: natural, honey, mechanically demucilaged, fully washed, and wet hulled.
The goal is to understand the traditional processing methods and the importance of the coffee post-harvest processor in determining flavor profile.
Students will understand the traditional coffee processing methods in terms of the fruit anatomy, when and why these methods developed, and how common processing terms are used differently by different origins and actors.
This class from the Coffee Quality Institute offers an introduction to green coffee post-harvest processing methods. Learn the science and techniques to improve quality and consistency in every cup of coffee. Gain key insights to apply across the entire value chain.
Upon completion of the 2-Day Intensive, students will: earn a CQI Award of participation for the one day class. Then, they will take the SCA Green Coffee Foundation written exam online. After passing the exam, students will earn a certificate from Specialty Coffee Association in Green Coffee Foundation.
